Denzel Curry released his latest single, “BLOOD ON MY NIKEZ,” today (July 20). The gloomy composition combines horror-filled sounds with chilling hook echoes.
Returning to the spotlight after his contemplative fifth studio album, Melt My Eyez See Your Future, the musician proves he’s still willing to unleash dirty, grimy lyrics when called for. This is notable because it is the Florida rapper’s first solo song of the year.
“Mane, how the f**k you get all your bread took? I’m a real n**ga, leave a trail full of dead crooks. Opposite of snakes, you’re the type to make the feds look. I could make the shell shook, that chopper sing like Sam Cooke,” he raps in the record’s lone verse.
In addition to the single, Curry released an accompanying music video directed by Omar Jones. The images depict a tapestry of the Miami artist’s life, including a ride around the city, a vibrant house party, and an undertone of his trademark frightening energy. However, the rapper has not been idle in the interim. His musical footprint will grow even more when he appears on NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concert” in June 2022. Among the highlights of the six-song performance were “Melt Session #1,” “Walkin,” and “Troubles.” Meanwhile, he has released collaborations with fellow musicians Armani White and Midwxst in recent months.
The most recent release adds to curiosity about Denzel Curry’s initiatives for this year. While nothing has been confirmed, the rumor mill implies a possible collaboration with JPEGMAFIA. “TWO ALBUMS LEFT TO GO,” the artist wrote last month. I’M KEPT IN.” “So wassup with Album 2?” the “Ultimate” hitmaker subsequently tweeted in response.
JPEG later replied, “Ready when [you] are.” The duo first collaborated on Curry’s “VENGEANCE” from his 2018 album TA13OO. Their last joint effort arrived in 2020 with the debut of “BALD!”
