President John Dramani Mahama has taken action against some of his appointees who failed to declare their assets by the March 31, 2025 deadline.
These government officials will now face punishment for not obeying the order to submit details of their properties and finances, which is required by law.
In a Facebook post by the Minister in charge of government communications on Monday, 5th May, 2025, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, he said that as part of the punishment, the affected officials will lose four months of their salaries. They are also expected to donate the same amount of money to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. This decision is meant to show that the president is serious about accountability and following the law. The president also said that the appointees who do not declare their assets latest by tomorrow (6th May, 2025) will be dismissed from office.
The president had earlier warned that all appointees must declare their assets or face serious consequences. While many followed the order, a number of officials failed to meet the deadline. This caused public concern, as Ghanaians expected their leaders to set a good example by obeying the rules.
President Mahama is now giving these officials one last chance. They have until the end of tomorrow to submit their asset declaration forms. If they fail to do so by the deadline, they will be removed from their positions automatically.
The punishment and final warning are part of efforts to fight corruption and promote transparency in public service. Asset declaration helps the public know that officials are not using their positions to gain wealth unfairly.
This latest move has been praised by some people who believe strong leadership is needed to promote honesty in government. Others are still watching closely to see if the president will truly follow through with dismissals if any official fails to meet the final deadline.
